Last week seemed to be ‘the presentation week’ for the girls. They learnt Locomotion in different types of animals. At first i thought of making it fast by just explaining through ‘Lecture method’ simply bcoz i couldn’t wait to start the new topic..But..when i entered most of the classes, they didnt look promising (? ?) to me. So i grouped them and spared 15 minutes for them to prepare the presentation.
Well, during the preparation for the presentation they were discussing, referring text book and reference books, exchanging ideas and of course exchanging laughters..at least for a while, they didn’t have time to doze off..
And i was conducting lesson for both classes at the same time (so happen that both classes are next to each other)...when time’s up, its time for presentation...Its gud to see that they put all effort to explain to their friends..once a while i interrupted to do corrections to the facts given..The two-periods lesson gone unnoticed..maybe bcoz everybody seemed to focus on wat their friends were presenting..But one girl came to me..’Teacher, i don’t quite like presentation method..bcoz i don’t understand wat my friends explained..one more thing is that we only remember more the topic that we presented but not the rest of the topic’..Well..at least she speaks out her opinion!...So what do u think, Biology teachers of Malaysia? ???? (..wakaka...as if all Bio teachers in Malaysia read my Blog..)Or perhaps...”What do u think, ex SESERIANS yg pernah belajar Bio wif me???”

Lecture method is ‘Teacher Centred’ whereas ‘Presentation method’ is ‘Student Centred’...Out of two, the later is more recommended...But teachers have no choice if they want to complete the syllabus fast..the advantage of lecture method..
Well, i almost end up the chapter Locomotion & Support. By next week should start the next chapter..I was struggling to complete the chapter bcoz from Wednesday until Friday i was not in school again. Have to attend mesyuarat Ketua Pentaksir Kawasan at PD for PBS (Penilaian berasaskan sekolah), PEKA Biology..(That’s one of my contribution as GC too).
Well..again..its not that easy to be a teacher nowadays..u have to sacrifice ur time, energy and money too....Siapa kata jadi Guru senang, they are oudateddddd....or may be jealous of teachers..wakakaka...I enjoy being a teacher..and I’m teaching with passion...

ReplyDeletein my opinion, presentation method's much better...(hmmm tp tym ktorg dulu ckg x penah buat kn?) at least they learn something instead of dozzing off when the teacher's explaining.n d lessons will be more interesting.abit lyk how ms foo conduct her chemistry lessons.

instead, kalau ckg dok suap kn everything kt dorg, mreke cume akan telan telan dan telan las2 terlene sbb knyang sgt(ckg phm la kn mksd saye).haha. pastu ble tbgn dari tido lupe balek everything yg ckg suapkn tu.
haaa..xke sie2 ke tu. hehe.
like wht u said la teacher..u were just givin out facts to us leading our brain to be jammed and then went zzzz~...hahaha :D

ReplyDeleteTime is very limited to complete the syllabus..so, sometimes teachers dont have much choice..except for Lecture method..Poor thing :-(
Ainah..all of us are learning thru our mistakes..So do i. I've made mistakes too and i have regrets too..but i make a resolve not to repeat..Even at this age, there r mistakes here and there, bcoz we r the Homo sapiens right? :-)

i think the lecture method is suitable especially to finish off the syllibus rite?
but..
for students who are quite slow to understand and pick up what u taught, i suggest that u approach them individually..
tah way, u will be able to know details on what topics,or to be precise subtopics they are weak in..

ReplyDeleteIdeally yup... presentation from students is best... however... due to time constraints n u being out very often... then sometimes, lecture method is not a choice but a must do... haih. Syllabus x abis pun kene gak bombard!!! U r in a school with the chosen students...students who r already motivated n gung-ho to good grades... what about those in other day schools, where the level of achievement is questionable? nak buat presentation?.. alamat x abis la syllabus!!!
The bottom line is... at the end of the day... the syllabus needs to be completed, exams need to be faced. Since we r so exam oriented... so what is our priority then?
Ntah la... been there, done that... don't even know or feel 100% sure my students gained enough... I tried my best... but was my best enough for the kids??? Only God knows...
