Indeed...very slow! I mean the progress of T&L process in the classroom. It is behind scheduled..I should have started this chapter last week but couldnt complete the previous chapter by then..It's all because students seem a bit slow to understand the process of water movement in plant..that i have to repeat the explanation. May be because i refused to show them the Teaching Courseware supplied by KPM, instead i choose to explain by using schematic Diagram and a Table of event..How water moves from soil to root, from root upwards, along the stem to leaf, and finally from leaf out to atmosphere..No regret though, because they understand better and they managed to extract the meaningful words and sentences from the text book, reference book and of course from Biology module.
I always emphasised on meaningful sentences: short and direct, so that they wont miss even 1 mark for their essays..In Biology examination, the greatest challenge of course is Paper 2! Adding to it, they have difficulty to write Biology essay in English! So they need a lot of practice in writing Biology essays..
So, out of four classes i taught, 2 classes have started learning the new chapter. It started with the introduction of types of skeleton: endo and exoskeleton. When i mentioned that Arthropods have exoskeletons, they asked me 'What is Arthropods?', then insecta, crustaceans, molluscs, arachnids??? Waaaaa havoc..I said to them "What a shame if U dont know these classes of animals, at this level! " Grrrrr...Kurang membaca!
Endoskeleton..all Fishes, amphibians, birds, reptiles..They asked me "What about Star fish? Sea horses? jelly fish? garden snail? Snakes? turtles?'-(Those listed are the animals which confused them as to decide whether it endo or exo..)..So i leave it to them to find out because i dont want to feed them with all the answers, biar pandai cari sendiri!
By using the skeleton model (which some parts already dislocated due to over and extensive usage last year..), two periods (90 minutes) of teaching gone with the identifying types of vertebrae..

To be continued...
